THE ANTLERS

I hadn't heard about this band until recently when a friend suggested I should give them a listen. At first thought I didn't think they were anything special but gave them a chance and listened to thier album Hospice from start to finish one night and significantly changed my mind! The mixture of instrumental and vocal talent make it so emotive and moving to listen to and watching them perform live below appears like such little effort for such a big sound. Although I don't think it's an album I'd want to listen to all the time as it's so emotionally touching but it really is in my collection of respectable artists! When listening through the album and reached the song 'Kettering' I immediately knew it was something I could work with. It has just the right atmospheric elements that I want for my video, the only slight problem is it's nearly five minutes wrong, but I'm sure I can fade out the ending if I run out of time to film.

Initially, The Antlers was a solo project created by vocalist and guitarist Peter Silberman from Brooklyn, New York, Silberman wrote the first two albums, "Uprooted" and "In the Attic of the Universe" by himself and under his own name. Afterwards, he recruited Lerner and Cicci, becoming a collaborative group. The band recorded two EPs: "Cold War" and "New York Hospitals". Silberman's collection of songs would later become a full-length album titled "Hospice" and would feature an epic storyline, telling the story of a man losing a loved one to cancer and having to witness her death first-hand. The album was independently released by the band in March of 2009, selling an apparently overwhelming number of copies, later selling all of their stock and had to produce more. The band later commented that they "bit off more than they could chew". The album received critical praise for both its narrative and musicianship and has since been listed on several "Album of the Year" lists. The band later signed with New York-based French Kiss Records. The label released a remastered "Hospice" on August 18, 2009.

Here's a live version of 'Kettering' played in San Diego.
